Work offline and how syncing works

What you can do with no signal, how changes reach the office when you reconnect, and what the sync dot means.

The Homeforce app is built for basements, attics and dead zones. Your schedule is saved on the phone, and almost everything you do on a visit is stored right away and sent to the office when you get signal back.

What's on your phone

Each time the app syncs, it saves your visits from yesterday through the next six days, along with their customers, addresses, equipment, checklists, estimates, invoices, notes and photos. It also saves your pricebook so you can build estimates offline.

What works with no signal

  • On my way, I've arrived and Complete visit
  • Checklists, photos, notes, the visit write-up and the customer's signature
  • New estimates and invoices, and sending them (they send when you reconnect)
  • Recording cash and check payments
  • Clocking in and out
  • Replying in the Inbox (the message sends when you reconnect)

What needs a signal:

  • Take card payment. The app tells you "No signal" and suggests cash, check or sending the invoice later.
  • Searching from More, and creating or editing office records like leads, customers and jobs. These screens show the last copy you loaded, and say "No connection" if you try to save. Your typed changes stay on the screen so you can try again.

How syncing works

Every change you make goes into a queue on your phone, in the order you made it. The app sends the queue when you reconnect, every minute while it's open, and whenever you pull down to refresh. Each change is applied exactly once, even if the connection drops partway.

Anything you made offline is labeled Waiting to sync or "waiting to sync" until the office has it.

The sync dot

Look at the small dot on your photo in the top right:

  • Green: synced
  • Orange: changes waiting, or syncing now
  • Gray: offline
  • Red: your phone has internet but can't reach Homeforce

Press and hold your photo to sync right away.

When the office changed it first

Sometimes the office changes a visit while you're offline. For example, they mark it complete or cancel it. When your queued change can't be applied, the office's version wins and your screen updates to match. If something you did isn't there after syncing, check with the office.
