Job and project workflows by trade

How HVAC, plumbing, electrical, painting, roofing, remodeling, route-based and cleaning companies typically set up jobs, visits and projects in Homeforce.

Every trade uses the same building blocks: jobs with one or more visits, and projects with phases for longer work. What changes is which one you reach for. Set each job type's mode in Settings → Job types & modes: Service call, Multi-day crew job or Project with phases.

HVAC & plumbing

Almost everything is a service job: one visit for a repair or tune-up, a second visit if parts need ordering.

  • Techs work from the visit's field view: notes, before/after photos, a checklist for tune-ups, the customer's signature, then an invoice.
  • Equipment on site on the job shows the customer's system and its age, which helps with replacement conversations.
  • Record parts from the truck under Parts used so each call's margin is right.
  • A replacement install can stay a service job (a one-day crew job), or use Convert to project if it grows into ductwork and multiple phases.

Electrical

Repairs and troubleshooting are service jobs. Panel upgrades and rewires are usually a single crew day or a short project. Use the job's PO number for builder or commercial work, and a checklist for inspection items.

Painting

Interior and exterior repaints work well as projects: phases like prep, prime and finish coats, a contract and cost budget, crew days, and before/during/after photos tagged by phase. Use change orders for added rooms or trim, and the Customer report to keep homeowners updated.

Roofing

Inspections and repairs are service jobs. A re-roof is a multi-day crew job or a project, with daily logs for weather and material deliveries, and a punch list for the final walk. Track dumpster and material costs as cost entries so margin is accurate.

Remodeling & restoration

Run these as projects. Set the contract and budget, add phases with budgets, bring in subcontractors and approve their bills against the project, and use change orders for every scope change. Bill with progress invoices as phases finish. See Manage a project and Progress billing.

Landscaping, lawn, pool and pest (recurring routes)

Each service is a short service job with one visit, usually created by a membership when it comes due. Keep checklists short (chemicals applied, readings, pass/fail items) and take an after photo. See Memberships.

Cleaning

Each clean is a service job with one visit. Use a checklist for each room or area, take after photos, and get the customer's sign-off before you leave. Large one-time cleans can use a crew so the whole team is on the job.
